Snack Bags Make Great Party Bags

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 11:34 AM 0 comments

My daughter had a Nemo themed birthday party. Instead of the plastic party bag you just toss I made some snack bags and filled them with goodies. Arizona Soapworks (you can find them on Etsy) has some adorable party favor themed soaps that you can get in several scents. I filled each bag with some soaps & also put in a little snack. (each wrapped individually)

If you'd like some unique party bags for your little ones birthday send me an email. Tiffaniesrubek@Yahoo.com Discounts provided for the first dozen, then each additional half dozen.

Medicine Bag

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 11:35 AM 0 comments
I have to stay organized so I don't lose things.  I've been keeping our electronics all in one bag, medicine in another, but have been squeezing them in multiple snack bags I make.

To help ease the stress of moving to Germany at the beginning of the year, I thought I'd make bags with fun prints and larger in size. This will be easier when my husband is digging through our luggage asking where the medicine is, I can just tell him in the medicine bag.

The bag measures 8" long and 8 1/2" wide. It's going to fit all of the medicine "just in case" something happens while we're traveling. I kept the inside a waterproof layer. If one of the syrup bottles decides to leak you can wipe it clean. The outside is a fun cotton print with doctors and nurses and will be easy to recognize in your luggage.

It's more than just a wetbag.

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 9:26 AM 0 comments
If you're like me your wetbag stash has grown and its uses have multiplied. Here are some of the things I use a wetbag for. Oh and to clarify, no cross contamination here ;) each bag has its own purpose!

Swim lessons - I toss my daughters wet suit in a wetbag. It saves me from having to carry something extra. This way I can just toss it in the diaper bag and nothing else gets wet.

Snack bag - We're a plastic bag free home and have been or quite a while. This means that if we are going somewhere and need to pack snacks, we bring the super sized bag to carry enough food for my toddler and husband.

Diapers - I have built a little emergency diaper kit that I keep in the car. I fit two prefolds and some wipes with room to spare and keep the bag under the back seat. It's out of the way, but accessible if I need it.

Electronics - Traveling is much easier when everything is organized. I keep all the electronics and chargers in one bag. This includes the ipods, video camera, digital camera, etc.

I'm working on wetbags to sell at the Etsy shop. Inventory is low, but keep checking back as new products will be listed hot off the sewing machine.

Peanut Butter Delish!

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 12:00 AM 0 comments
I had the most wonderful peanut butter treat at a playdate slash surprise baby shower for some friends. Have you heard of Weelicious.com? That where this little goody originated from. Here's the recipe. I adjusted it a little bit and used Kashi cereal instead of cheerios. I found the brown rice syrup at Henry's market. Don't be like my mom in Kentucky and expect to find it at a Kroger. Save yourself a trip and go directly to the Whole Foods or natural food store closest to you. If it's a drive from your house, turn it into a field trip! It will be worth it I PROMISE.

I've been counting my caloric intake lately which is why I went for putting it in a dish instead of the cookies.I was able to cut this batch into 10 squares and they were 196 calories a square.

I apologize for the little fingers in the picture. I tried to snap a quick photo of the final product and my little helper snuck her way in.

Zoomars Petting Zoo

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 1:00 AM 0 comments
The petting zoo in San Juan Capitrano is a bit of a drive, but well worth it! Heck, if you don't want to drive the train will drop you off within feet of the entrance. If you are military, be sure to ask for their military discount. It is not posted anywhere, but they do offer free food for the animals as well as tokens for the pony rides and train with your paid admission.

They have a petting area with rabbits, guinnea pigs, and even chickens. There is also another petting area with very hungry goats. We kept our tray of food perched on the fence where they couldn't reach. If you walk around with all of your food, you're liable to lose it pretty quickly.

Here is their website for more info.

What to buy for baby #2 ?

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 1:00 AM 0 comments
My daughters friends are already expecting siblings in the next few months. Of course I wanted to make something for the new baby, but I also wanted to include the older sibilng. Here's what I came up with.

For the new baby a soft minky blanket. Minky on one side & either a cotton print or knit print on the other. It measures about 12x13 with a ribbon looped in the stitching for easy attachment to a stroller or for the little one to hold on to.

For the older child a snack bag. What makes this present even better is that you can stuff the blanket inside the snack bag, wrap the whole package with a ribbon and tag it with a special message from your child to their friend.

If you would like a blanket & snack bag to give as a gift send me and email & lets create one together. Turn around time for this is less than a week. tiffaniesrubek@yahoo.com

Quick & Easy Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 8:47 AM 0 comments
I stumbled across War Eagle Mill while searching for some cookie recipes. It says "quick & easy" and it is. I cut the sugar in half, using 1/4 cup of raw sugar & 1/4 of flax seed, but they are still sweet! I passed on the raisins too. I wasnt' sure about mixing raisins and peanut butter.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup crunchy peanut butter (smooth works too.)

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup WEM Rolled Oats

2 tablespoons WEM Whole Wheat Flour

1 egg

2 tablespoons raisins or dried cranberries (optional)

You can also order from their  website

Enjoy!

NEW 2 size diaper!

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 2:31 PM 0 comments

Introducing a new pattern with an adjustable rise. Does your little one suffer from dumpy drawers? Mine does. All her baby chub is disappearing and she getting so tall! The diapers aren't fitting her like they once were, so I decided to tweek my pattern a bit and add an adjustable rise. This saves from buying a brand new diaper, and you get more use from just one diaper!

Skinny Girls Pancakes... they're delish!

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 10:22 PM 0 comments
First off, here's the recipe (direct from The Skinnygirl Dish by Bethenny Frankel)

3/4 whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp canola oil
1/3 cup + 2 tbsp soy milk
1/2 cup fresh blueberries

I add a little more oil when cooking which creates a nice crunch similar to a funnel cake. YES! Funnel cake, promise!

I also end up with a real thick batter, so I just flip when I see the edges turning a crispy brown.

And for the finishing product that my toddler loves...

Yummmy blueberry pancakes!
Enjoy!

How to save a moldy dress

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 8:21 AM 0 comments

What do you do with moldy clothes? I was folding clothes and  bummed to see
mold around the collar of two little dresses we got from Grammy. YUCK!
The dresses are adorable so I attempted to transform them into skirts.
Here's what I had to start with. I guess I could have dunked it in chemicals to get rid of the stain, but I didn't feeling like turning it into a chemistry experient.

First step was cutting the dress.

Next I turned it inside out and folded over a hem. Make sure you have enough room to fit either your elastic or ribbon through. I chose elastic for the waistband for two reasons. #1 She's a toddler and dressing little Miss Independent can be challenging. #2 I didn't have any ribbon to match *grin*

My mom would have told me to iron, then pin. Personally, I try to avoid pinning if I can. Sometimes you need to pin your fabric together.  This I thought I could avoid with a good ironing. And the result? Success. No pinning necessary *grin*

And here is Lulu's new skirt.
*drum roll*

TADA!

Cute AND you save an outfit! Happy sewing!

Clean B. Detergent Giveaway!

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 8:12 AM 38 comments

I recently received the most delicious smelling
box in the mail from Clean B. Detergents. Melissa, the creator behind Clean B. Detergents, sent me Vanilla Mint and Mango Papaya to try.

Is anyone else a fan of packaging as well as the product inside? The detergent comes in the most adorable brown bag tagged with your scent, the directions as well as your own scooper! Melissa was kind enough to do a Q&A with me. Here’s what she had to say.

Why did you start making detergents?
I have a passion and LOVE creating my own products. I was using cloth diapers and wanted a better, "greener", fresher smelling detergent. I began researching natural earth created ingredients and how they could work with cleaning, especially cloth diapers, then began testing the amounts until I felt I had a perfect mix.

What was your first craft project? Was it a success?
Actually, the first real craft project I made were cloth diapers, and the first ones were pretty bad. I got a sewing machine for my birthday and I was determined! I made a Diaper with a bulldozer on it for my now 10 year old, He was 2 then and loved it…although is wasn't functional. :o)

What is your favorite scent?
OH I have SOO Many. Here's a few - Lavender Vanilla, Pink Sugar, Downy Fresh and Downy Jasmine & WaterLily Radiance. They are so soft, delicate, just Heavenly Smelling!

How long have you been making the product?
2 Years in June

Do you have a favorite artisan that you follow?
I really don't. I enjoy such a wide variety of arts & crafts. Cloth diapers, handmade baby items, handmade bath & body products to name a few. I do love exploring new bath & body products and getting inspired for the next bath indulgence creation.

When do you squeeze in the time for making the detergent?
HA - That IS the Question I have 7 little ones, and home school 5 of them. I squeeze in detergents early in the AM, during school breaks and at naptimes. I occasionally make them in the evening when my dear husband is refereeing our little ones. :o) I never make them on Sunday That is our Church & Family day.

Do you come from a craft family or are you the only one?
I really do not have a crafty family. My mom tried to teach me to sew when I was younger but I had ZERO interest. I have no other members of my family who craft. God put a tiny Spark of creativity in me, I found it one day and it has since turned into this Glowing Flame! I LOVE crafting things, especially for others. I get such a joy in giving them away, hearing of how others like them and have even found new uses for them! It never ceases to amaze me!

THE REVIEW

Pro’s – Earth friendly and cleans just as well as name brand detergents, but has a much nicer smell! She's been doing this a couple of years which is something you need to look for when buying detergents.

Con’s – None here, it did its job.

Melissa has been kind enough to provide one lucky winner a trial set with three detergents and a freshening powder in their choice of scents. Here’s how you win.

Mandatory entry – Go to Melissa’s website http://www.cleanbottomsdetergent.com/ and return to tell me your three favorite scents you hope to receive. Leave an email address in one of the comments so that I can contact you, should you win.

Time to share

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 12:12 PM 0 comments
I've finished making my own stash of snack bags AND managed to post some extras to share on my etsy site. (insert shamless plug www.diaperkoozie.etsy.com) Super productive weekend for me! Yay!

I managed to crank out 7 different kinds of bags. I would finish one, then tweek the next one, then the next, and before I knew it I had a random stack of snack packs. Pretty simliar to my own stash though. I am a bit odd and everything has to have it's own job. There's the actual "snack" bag, then the "PB&J" bag, and so on.

Does anyone else do that?

Here's how I justify myself. If something doesn't have a job then it just sits there. By all means feel free to sit there if you're pretty. If not, you're just going to clutter. Oh wait, I take that back, even pretty things can get ugly after a while.

OK, back to clutter.

So you begin to clutter my counter, then I get irritated that I don't have space & you either go in the craigslist/Ebay bin or if I don't think you're of any value you go in the trash. Bye-Bye.

And what does this rambling have to do with snack bags? Easy. That ugly ziplock box has gots to go. That's right. Gots to go. Replace it with a pretty snack bag. This bag never turns ugly. At least at my house they don't because I've got my little Bobalu munching on something when we're out and about.

What's for dinner?

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 7:41 AM 0 comments

Moms were sharing recipes at baby sign class recently and here is a MUST HAVE! Take a jar of salsa and some boneless skinless chicken. Combine the two in a crock pot for 8 hours on low for the most delicious and moist chicken you will ever have. Perfect for tacos!

I've adjusted the recipe and swapped salsa for chicken broth. Now I have chicken to throw in dishes for the week. Here is meal #1 with crock pot chicken.

BBQ chicken pizza from Pampered Chef

Dear Pampered Chef,

You're cookbooks humor me every time I use them. Your placement of products throughout each receipt sends me giggling. I do not own the Ultimate Slice & Grate fitted with a v-shaped blade, but was still able to slice my onion and tomatoes with your average kitchen knife without incident. I do own your bamboo utensils and those were quite useful for mixing up this dish.

Thank you for the entertainment while I cook!

Now for the good stuff, the recipe. I've adjusted it just a bit, but here are the basics.

Grill up one large onion, 4 slices turkey bacon, and 2 garlic cloves until onion is tender and lightly browned. Stir in 1/2 cup smoky bbq sauce and remove from heat.

Stir in 2 cups cooked chicken (nicely shredded from your crock pot)

Take your pizza crust (I use the fluffy tortilla's that look like personal pizza's, but you can use whatever is your favorite.) and spread chicken mix within 1/2 inch of edge. Arrange 2 diced plum tomatoes over pizza. Sprinkle with 1 cup of shredded cheddar and monterey jack cheese. Sprinkle with fresh or freeze dried parsley.

Since I use a tortilla that is already cooked, I just put in the broiler until the cheese melts. If you use pizza dough, but in the oven at 425 for about 18-22 minutes.

Do you ever hide healthy stuff in your food? I do.... beneath all the delicious bbq chicken ingredients is a nice fluffy layer of spinach. Shhhh!

Do you have a snack pack?

Posted by Teapots and Toads at 7:48 PM 1 comments
Have a snack pack for your little one? I stitched some up with touchtape closure, but then saw some old school fold over style that I had to make. The style reminds me of flattened peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that my mom use to pack in my lunch in elementary school. I think the fold over is my favorite! As soon as I'm done making my own stash I'll share and put some up on Etsy.

Which one do you have? Which one do you prefer?

Might I add that these are also nice for tiny first aid kids for traveling. We went away this past weekend and I managed to fit teething tablets, tylenol, & advil in the fold over style. I made the mistake of sharing the duffel bag with my husband and daughter, so searching through clothes to look for the Heidi Grace print was quite nice & painless.
